Despatch No. 191 of the 8th. October, 1906, I have the
honour, at the request of the Chief Justice, to transmit
to Your Lordship the enclosed copy of a letter which he has
addressed to me on the subject of his vacation leave.

ruling given by Lord Elgin in the Despatch referred to

words I understand that it is the view of Lord Elgin that
the vacation leave granted to the Chief Justice should not
be longer than that to which any other member of the Hong-
-kong Colonial Service is entitled. In this view I concur,
and I do not see that any sufficient reason has been
advanced for exceptional treatment.
